Grand Hotel Evropa comes to life as W Prague with a modern design

Updated: Aug 29

Prague, March 24, 2025 - Iconic return: W Prague officially opens a new era of luxury lifestyle accommodation in Central Europe

W Prague officially opened its doors on Friday with a gala Premiere Event that welcomed guests from the media, influencers, artists and personalities of the Prague and international scene. With the revival of the former Grand Hotel Evropa, the W Hotels brand made its first appearance in the Czech Republic - and in style.

Combining historic architecture with a modern approach to hospitality, W Prague becomes a new cultural and social hub in the heart of Prague. This iconic hotel is the next stop in the European expansion of the W Hotels brand, alongside recently opened hotels in Rome and Budapest.

W Prague breathes new life into the legendary Grand Hotel Evropa – an Art Nouveau jewel from the early 20th century. It visually connects the rich history of the place with bold design elements and sophisticated hospitality for a new generation of travelers.

The hotel offers 161 stylishly furnished rooms and suites, including the iconic WOW Bohemia Duplex, the signature W Lounge bar and the Above Rooftop bar overlooking the Prague skyline. The E-WOW suite with breathtaking views of the hundred-spired Prague is open to the public for the first time ever.

“The opening of W Prague brings travelers and locals an unexpected and inspiring experience right in the heart of one of Europe’s most vibrant cities,” says Helen Leighton, Vice President, Luxury Brands and Communications, EMEA. “We look forward to our guests discovering the magic of Prague through the hotel’s distinctive design, innovative gastronomy and exceptional service.”

Renowned architects Benoy and design studio AvroKO London, in collaboration with local designers Chapman Taylor, have sensitively transformed this Prague landmark while respecting its Art Nouveau identity.

The color palette is based on the original tones of the building – earthy shades of yellow, terracotta, dark gray and iconic green for stucco details. The historic building has been joined by a 9-story elliptical wing by DAM architects, which brings the entire building into the present.

The inspiration was the theme of the elixir – a combination of tradition and innovation, nature and industry, reality and fantasy. This is reflected in every detail – from the facade, through the Fantastical Garden inspired by the work of Alfons Mucha, to the light installations by Preciosa Lighting.

All 161 rooms and 23 suites combine bold colors, textures, and elements reminiscent of the building’s glorious past.

The E-WOW Suite – a modern interpretation of the presidential suite – is located in the new part and offers refined luxury with Art Nouveau elements. The WOW Bohemia Duplex in the historic part of the building offers a two-story layout, restored beams, large-format windows, and an atmosphere that is as theatrical as it is cozy.
