The film Father Mother Sister Brother received the main prize at the Venice Film Festival

Venice, September 6 - The main prize of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival today went to the film Father Mother Sister Brother by American director Jim Jarmusch. The comedy-drama, made up of interconnected short stories, concerns the relationships between adult children and their parents. The main roles are played by Adam Driver, Cate Blanchett and Vicky Krieps. World agencies report this.


After receiving the award, Jarmusch admitted, according to the AP, that he was surprised by the award and thanked him for choosing his "silent film". 21 films competed in the main competition of the 82nd edition of the festival.


The Silver Lion went to Tunisian director Kausar Ben Haniya's favored film The Voice of Hind Rajab, about a Palestinian girl killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip in January 2024 after she and her family were trapped in a car. The film was based on real-life distress calls between five-year-old Hind Rajab, who was trapped in a car after Israeli tank fire killed her relatives, and the Palestinian Red Crescent. The film has a big name cast: Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, and directors Alfonso Cuarón and Jonathan Glazer are among the executive producers, and it received a 22-minute standing ovation after its premiere at the festival, according to the AP.


The award for best actress was given by the jury headed by American director Alexander Payne to Chinese actress Shin Chi-lei for her role in the film The Sun Rises on Us All directed by Cai Shang-jun, which tells the story of a love triangle set in the world of Cantonese factories.


The award for best actor went to Italian Toni Servillo for his role as a president at the end of his term in Paolo Sorrentino's La Grazia.


The award for best director went to American Benny Safdie for the biographical drama The Smashing Machine about legendary MMA fighter Mark Kerr, starring Dwayne Johnson.
