Stockholm, August 26 - Swedish music streaming service Spotify will offer its users a new messaging feature, the company said in a press release today, as it seeks to attract new users and compete with competitors, Reuters reported.

The new feature, called Messages, will allow Spotify users to chat and share music. "Messages are a fast and convenient way to share what you're listening to and chat about it with the people you care about," the company said.

The company previously offered a similar messaging feature, but it canceled it in 2017 due to low demand, Reuters reported. Spotify's user base has grown significantly since then, with 696 million people using the service each month in the second quarter of this year.

The Financial Times reported over the weekend that Spotify is investing in new features and has set a goal of increasing its user base to one billion. However, the company faces increasing competition from rivals such as Apple Music, Amazon Music and YouTube.
