Los domingos won the main prize at the San Sebastián Film Festival

San Sebastián (Spain) September 28 - The main prize, the Golden Shell, at the San Sebastián International Film Festival was won on Saturday by the film Los domingos by Spanish director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa. The Hollywood Reporter reports. The San Sebastián festival is one of the most important film events of the year, welcoming the world's leading directors, actors and film critics every year.

The Golden Shell was contested by, among others, the biographical film Franz by Polish director Agnieszka Holland about the Jewish German-writing writer Franz Kafka. Also competing for the Golden Shell were the psychological thriller Ballad of a Small Player by Swiss-Austrian director Edward Berger, the film Couture by French director Alice Winocour, and the historical drama Nuremberg by American director James Vanderbilt.

The 73rd edition of the festival won the main prize for the Basque drama Los domingos (Sundays), which tells the story of Ainara, an idealistic and brilliant 17-year-old girl whose family expects her to choose a university degree soon. However, Ainara feels increasingly closer to God and considers accepting the life of a nun.

The Silver Shell for Best Director and the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay went to Belgian director Joachim Lafosse's Six jours ce printemps-là (Six Days That Spring), which tells the story of a mother who takes her twin children on a secret trip to the empty villa of her former father-in-law and mother-in-law.

The Audience Award went to Tunisian director Kausar Ben Haniya's film The Voice of Hind Rajab. The drama reconstructs the events surrounding the killing of Palestinian girl Hind Rajab in January 2024. The girl, who was traveling in a car with her four cousins, aunt and uncle, came under fire from the Israeli army as they tried to flee Gaza City. The film was based on the real-life last-minute distress calls of the girl, who was trapped in her car after Israeli tank fire killed her relatives.
