In August, Slovakian hoteliers accommodated a record 808,000 guests

Bratislava, October 13 - Accommodation facilities in Slovakia recorded a record-breaking 808,000 guests in August, mainly due to an increase in the number of accommodated foreigners. However, the number of overnight stays in the second month of the summer school holidays has not yet reached the value of the record year 2019.

"August has long been the peak of the year, but for the first time, hotels, guesthouses and campsites recorded more than 800,000 guests. The current figures were therefore higher than in the summer before the pandemic by approximately 16,000 guests," said statisticians.

The Covid-19 epidemic, which broke out in Slovakia in 2020, also significantly affected tourism.

The total number of overnight stays in accommodation facilities in Slovakia in August was one tenth lower than in 2019 due to shorter stays.

In August, almost 324,000 foreigners stayed in Slovakia, which is an increase of 17 percent year-on-year. Among them were 97,628 Czechs, with an increase of 8.1 percent year-on-year. The most foreign tourists to Slovakia have long-term come from the Czech Republic. Domestic visitors account for roughly two-thirds of the total number of hoteliers' clients in Slovakia.

In total, in the first eight months of this year, 4.3 million guests stayed in tourism facilities in Slovakia. This represents an increase of six percent year-on-year, and a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to 2019.
